Monthly Free Fare Fridays Return to OKC’s METRO Transit

With an Earth Day kick-off on Monday, April 22^nd, Oklahoma City’s METRO Transit will offer Free Fare Fridays once a month through September to help Oklahomans reduce their contribution to health-compromising ground-level ozone pollution.

Beginning on Friday, May 17^th, METRO Transit will make the following Fridays free fare days:

• Friday, May 17^th
• Friday, June 21^st
• Friday, July 19^th
• Friday, August 16^th
• Friday, September 20^th

For more information, you can contact METRO Transit via their website or call 235-RIDE between the hours of 7AM and 5PM. Additionally, METRO Transit buses are equipped with bike racks so multi-modal commuters can get around Oklahoma City easier. In fact, METRO Transit reported in 2012 alone they moved 47,000 bikes.

Public transit is essential to reducing ozone pollution during the May through September ozone season in Central Oklahoma. If even a fraction of Central Oklahomans opted to use transit in lieu of driving alone by automobile, it would begin to chip away at the more than 60% of air pollution caused by car and truck exhaust.

Residents throughout Central Oklahoma can also take advantage of their local transit systems. Edmond’s Citylink runs varying routes 6 days a week, all equipped with wheelchair lifts and bike racks, and are always free to the public. Route information is available on their website.
