A growing network of bicycle trails and routes means more bicyclists across Central Oklahoma and 2013 is shaping up to have the most successful Bike to Work Day yet. This year’s official day will be celebrated throughout the Central Oklahoma region Friday, May 17.
Monthly Free Fare Fridays Return to OKC’s METRO Transit
With an Earth Day kick-off on Monday, April 22nd, Oklahoma City’s METRO Transit will offer Free Fare Fridays once a month through September to help Oklahomans reduce their contribution to health-compromising ground-level ozone pollution.
OKC Bus Ridership Grew in 2012
Oklahoma City’s METRO Transit system saw an overall increase in bus ridership in 2012, adding 133,949 new trips over the course of the year – a 5.44% increase from 2011. Additionally, downtown ridership grew by 5.86% in 2012 alone, credited to the Oklahoma City Council’s 2011 decision to increase funding to improve frequency on two bus routes.
Public Meetings Announced for Changes to METRO Transit Service, Fare
The Central Oklahoma Transportation and Parking Authority (COTPA) will hold eight public meetings in early October regarding proposed changes to METRO Transit’s service as well as proposed fare increases. The proposed changes are intended to achieve improved frequency, better connections and improved on-time performance but do include the elimination of three existing routes.
